Our second month of attempting to tackle the 100 (more or less) films on my 100 Movies Bucket List poster yielded some pretty high highs and some very low lows. Specifically, this batch contains both the first perfect five-out-of-five and the lowest score I am willing to give to a movie. Just over half of the movies were new watches for me, while four of them I had seen before, despite not having very memorable thoughts about them. As of the end of February, 18 movies have been checked off the list. Click here to see the Letterboxd list of […]Read more »

It was either while I was in high school, or just after, when I saw first saw Jason X. It was my introduction to Friday the 13th and at the time my entire perception of the franchise was formed by this over-the-top cheesefest. Word on the street was that this was one of the the worst movies in the series and I certainly did get the impression that it was cheaply made. I wouldn’t be able to comment until now, over a decade later, on whether or not it fits in to the Friday the 13th canon in a meaningful […]Read more »
Following a brief prologue where an FBI sting operation culminates in him being obliterated with a coordinated artillery strike, Jason is once again dead, reduced to only his still-beating heart. Through some sort of magic nonsense, the coroner examining his remains is enticed into eating Jason’s heart, thus taking his soul into his body. This begins the bonkers body-swap massacre that is The Final Friday. While Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday may not be what I consider one of the definitive Friday the 13th movies, I think it might be one of the more interesting and entertaining chapters. Last year I began the self-appointed task of filling in one of my personal cinematic blind spots, the Friday the 13th franchise. While it hasn’t necessarily been a consistently entertaining ride thus far, at least they’ve been tolerable. Parts one through seven I watched over a four or five week stretch back in April and early May 2020, but when it came to start Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, I was stopped dead in my tracks. This movie was so hard to watch I wouldn’t finish it until almost nine months later.
For this previous Christmas I received a scratch-off poster of “Bucket List” must-see movies. This list of 100 movies is said to be compiled by combining lists from AFI, IMDb, and Academy Award-winners generally recognized as being the greatest films of all time. Because my life isn’t busy enough, I decided I will attempt to watch (or re-watch) every film on the list. As I scratch movies off the list, I will be publishing my very brief thoughts through a series of blog posts. Click here to see the Letterboxd list of films.
Just a few years ago I could’ve never imagined the number of movie and television streaming services I would eventually have access to. In many ways, having media scattered to the proverbial wind is a huge headache. We need websites like JustWatch to keep track of which services offer which content and without shelling out hundreds of dollars a month, you just need to make peace with the fact that you’re probably going to be able to watch all of the movies on that Letterboxd list. The one thing good to come out of all of these services springing up […]Read more »
